Empowering Women Through Education: Cheboygan County Community Foundation Supports the Women’s Resource Center to provide Scholarships

The Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) has been providing critical services for women, children, and families in Cheboygan County for over four decades. Through a longstanding partnership with North Central Michigan College (NCMC), WRCNM helps women access scholarship funds and supportive services, including career and academic advising, emotional support, job search assistance, and more.
Since 2020, the Cheboygan County Community Foundation has provided $5,000 annually to support women participating in WRCNM’s Educational and Employment Services (EES) program, helping them achieve educational and career goals that promote greater economic self-sufficiency.
Each semester, WRCNM receives applications from approximately 10 women from Cheboygan County. Funding is targeted to meet the unique needs of these students, many of whom face financial barriers due to being single parents, underemployed, having limited English proficiency, or other circumstances. In the last fiscal year, five women from Cheboygan County received scholarships, with three graduating and two continuing in the program.
