Cheboygan County Community Foundation Supports Emergency Department Expansion

The Cheboygan County Community Foundation (CCCF) is proud to award a $10,000 grant in support of the McLaren Northern Michigan Cheboygan Campus Emergency Department Expansion and Renovation Project.

The $17 million project will significantly expand and modernize emergency care available to residents and visitors in the Cheboygan area. Plans include a 5,000-square-foot addition, extensive renovations to the existing Emergency Department, private patient rooms, an expanded waiting area, a dedicated triage room, and updated medical and technology equipment. Two exam rooms will also be specifically designed to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for behavioral health patients, while a dedicated resuscitation room will support rapid, lifesaving care for critically ill or injured patients.

In recognition of the Foundation’s contribution, the Triage Room will be named for the Cheboygan County Community Foundation, creating a lasting connection between the Foundation and this important community resource.

Access to high-quality emergency care close to home is especially important in rural communities, where residents may face longer travel distances, limited access to primary care, and transportation challenges. The Cheboygan Emergency Department also serves the many visitors who come to northern Michigan throughout the year.

The project has received significant support, including $13 million from the State of Michigan and $1.5 million raised from private donors. Construction is scheduled to begin in Summer 2026 and continue through Spring 2028.

The Cheboygan County Community Foundation is honored to be part of an investment that will strengthen local emergency services and help ensure that quality, compassionate care remains available in Cheboygan County for generations to come.
